Located 1,000 miles off Africa’s east coast and 310 nautical miles southwest of Mahe, Alphonse is a small, triangular coral island. It is part of a secluded trio of islands, Alphonse, Bijoutier and St. François. This remote and exotic destination boasts one of the most diverse fisheries in the world of saltwater fly fishing. In the Alphonse and St. François fishing areas, a limited number of weekly guests enjoy exclusive access to over 10,000 acres of pristine white sand flats, distinguishing this region from others in the Indian Ocean. With abundant, unpressured populations of Bonefish, Trevally, Milkfish, and other species, even novice fly anglers can easily spot and cast to fish. While we hesitate to use the term “trip of a lifetime,” a week of fishing at Alphonse undoubtedly fits the bill. Alphonse Island is an ideal getaway for fly anglers and their families or partners. It offers a wide range of leisure and eco-tourism activities, or the option to simply unwind on a secluded beach or by the pool with a cocktail in hand.

In recent years, Cosmoledo has earned a reputation as one of the world’s premier destinations for giant trevally fishing. This legendary fishery is ideal for anglers seeking the ultimate saltwater flats experience. As one of the most remote and off-the-grid trips we offer, it provides an out-island, expeditionary adventure perfect for those looking for something truly extraordinary. Fishing at Cosmoledo is based out of Wizard Island at the Cosmoledo Eco Lodge, a land-based operation that opened in November 2018. Given its remote location and the significant travel required to reach it, this trip isn’t for everyone. However, for those wanting to explore one of the most pristine and untouched ecosystems on the planet, offering some of the best GT fishing available, all within a comfortable, safe, and reliable setting, there is no better choice.
The atoll’s perimeter features extensive, wadeable sand flats interspersed with islands of various shapes and sizes, creating an ideal habitat for its diverse fish population. The fishing season on Cosmoledo typically runs from November to late April and is restricted to a maximum of 10 anglers at a time to prioritize the atoll’s conservation.

This untouched fishery offers a timeless ecosystem where the daily interactions of predator and prey unfold before your eyes throughout the season. Astove stands out in the Seychelles as the top destination for landing truly big fish—whether it’s milkfish, dogtooth, and yellowfin tuna near the wall, or giant trevally and sharks in the inner lagoon and rugged ocean flats. Besides the large fish action, you'll find excellent permit opportunities within the lagoon, tailing triggerfish along the flats, and exceptional skinny-water bonefishing. For anglers who are fully committed to permit fishing and eager to dedicate a week exclusively to pursuing Indo-Pacific permit, Poivre Atoll and St. Joseph’s Atoll should be at the top of your list. These two remote fisheries, located about 13 miles apart, offer the highest concentrations of permit in the Seychelles, making them ideal for a dual-location fishing adventure aboard a luxurious 75-foot power catamaran liveaboard. Typically, these trips feature three days of fishing at St. Joseph’s followed by three days at Poivre, totaling seven nights and six days. However, itineraries can be customized based on tides, conditions, the season, and specific group goals. Situated in the Amirantes Islands of the Seychelles, Poivre Atoll is approximately 165 miles south of the main island, Mahé. The atoll comprises two smaller islands—Poivre and Île du Sud—separated by a shallow lagoon that connects to Île du Sud at high tide. Surrounded by breathtaking flats and the deep Amirantes Trench, which plunges from 60 meters to over 12,000 meters, Poivre offers rich currents and a variety of bluewater fish species. St. Joseph’s Atoll, featuring 13 small islands and sand spits, lies just 8.5 miles north of Poivre.
